DOE Restarts Plutonium-238 Production for NASA Space Probes

Popular Science is reporting that for the first time in more than two decades, the United States is producing plutonium-238. This particular form of plutonium is required for space probes such as the Mars Curiosity that run on radioisotope thermoelectric generator power sources.
