Bas Lansdorp is the CEO of Mars One, a company that's running a competition with the goal of establishing a human settlement on Mars by 2027. Lansdorp has finally addressed some of the issues in a video published to Mars One's YouTube account. "The suggestion was made that our candidates were selected on the basis of how much money they donate to Mars One, and that's just simply untrue," he says. He specifically says the claim that contest participants were able to pay for a better chance to be selected was "simply a lie." "It seems to me that she's more interested in writing a sensational article about Mars One than in the truth," he says.
