NASCAR effort focuses on math, science for kids

Landon Neu, 8, of Jacksonville, Fla., experiences what it's like to be behind the wheel of a race car at the NASCAR Acceleration Nation interactive display at Daytona International Speedway, Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, in Daytona Beach, Fla. Students who like NASCAR take note: You need a lot of geometry and physics to get a race car to go 200 laps at speeds that can top 200 mph. In a nod to the often overlooked science behind races like Sunday’s Daytona 500, NASCAR is announcing a yearslong commitment to promote “STEM” in classrooms. STEM is the buzzword for science, technology, engineering and math.
