Fitbit has confirmed it’s developing an app for Windows Phone 8.1. In a brief posting to the company’s community forums, a Fitbit spokesperson revealed the news by simply confirming "Fitbit is developing an application for Windows Phone 8.1." The popular range of activity trackers have long been supported on iOS and Android, but the addition of Windows Phone will boost Microsoft’s prospects in this emerging hardware segment. Device makers have a variety of reasons for not supporting Windows Phone, including development costs and a lack of potential customers, but some have been hampered by Microsoft’s Bluetooth support in Windows Phone. The latest Windows Phone 8.1 release has addressed a number of issues that prevented some developers from creating apps for popular wearables, so it’s possible more and more companies like Fitbit may now commit to creating apps for Windows Phone.
