FBI uses malware to spy on suspects, but it doesn't always work The FBI has an elite hacker team that uses malware to spy on suspects and even secretly turn on users' webcams. But despite fears of a Big Brother police state, the FBI's hacking team is nowhere near all-knowing. The scale of the FBI's hacking effort is hard to pin down, but Mo is just one of a handful of suspects known to have been targeted. The FBI bungled the installation of its malware after the suspect's email address was misspelled, then had to rewrite part of the tool after an internal software update.
