Samsung has Apple completely outgunned in advertising spending

Samsung (005930) will likely sell a lot of Galaxy S4s this year thanks in no small part to its gargantuan advertising budget that dwarfs the advertising spending of even the world’s most valuable technology company. Asymco’s Horace Dediu on Tuesday posted a chart on his Twitter account comparing the sales, general and administrative expenses for both Apple (AAPL) and Samsung, and it revealed a remarkable spending disparity between the two companies. Although Dediu didn’t have enough information to thoroughly break down Apple’s SGA, he did have numbers for the company’s annual advertising spending and he found that Samsung outspent the company on advertising by a factor of more than 4-to-1.
