Website of the day: WorldWide Telescope

See the stars like never before

Website of the day: WorldWide Telescope. WebsiteOfTheDay, Websites, Software, Online 0

Yesterday, we looked to the heavens to wish the Voyager probes well on their continuing journey through and beyond our solar system,

Tantalising to think about what they’ve seen on their way, isn’t it?

So how about having a gander yourself?

With Microsoft's WorldWide Telescope, you can.

Bringing together high quality imagery and navigational data gleaned from the biggest and best ground and space-based telescopes from around the world, this is a virtual guided tour of our galaxy, and beyond.

Take a close-up look at the surface of the Sun, or trip the light fantastic around galaxies that most people have never heard of until now.

This is a way to aggregate the myriad images of our night sky that have been taken over the years.

If you’re a Windows user, you can download the bespoke client to run this from your desktop. Or, you can use the web-based version.

Either way, stargazing was never this easy.
