The Japanese brand has just revealed the specs of the Xperia Z4, the successor to the Z3. Due to go on sale in Japan this summer, the new smartphone seems to be far less innovative than the latest models from Samsung or Huawei. The Sony Xperia Z4 reprises the basic format of the original Z3, with its 5.2-inch screen (1920x1080 pixels) but is slightly thinner (6.9mm compared to 7.3mm). Shipped with the latest version of Android (5.0), the Z4 packs a 2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage (expandable through a microSD). Ahead of the launch of the device in Japan this summer, Sony has yet to announce a possible compact version of the Z4 like the existing one based on the Z3.

I live in a small city in western Japan, but my heart was in Los Angeles over the weekend. In a sweltering convention center in Los Angeles, to be exact, alongside thousands of people dressed in robes or as robots. I was watching Star Wars Celebration — the biggest Star Wars convention of the year — from the comfort of my couch, living vicariously through The Verge's intrepid Bryan Bishop as he Periscoped his experiences live. I got to live the best bits of the convention experience through Twitter's new livestreaming app, but — best of all — I didn't have to be at the convention.

During AMD’s latest earnings call last week, president and CEO Lisa Su revealed the launch timing for Microsoft’s Windows 10 operating system. Microsoft previously revealed that it’s planning to launch Windows 10 "this summer" in 190 countries and 111 languages, but the company didn’t provide a firm date for the debut. While AMD’s revelation could be inaccurate, the company is well informed of Microsoft’s plans and will be readying hardware for the launch phase. Windows 10 is currently in the late stages of technical preview, and Microsoft is expected to further detail its launch plans at Build later this month.
It’s been nearly a year since Microsoft acquired Nokia’s phone business, and rumors suggest the Finnish company may be plotting a return to selling phones. Recode reports that Nokia is planning to return to the consumer mobile market as early as next year, citing two sources briefed on Nokia’s plans. It’s not clear exactly how Nokia plans to return, but the company is currently restricted from using the Nokia brand on phones until Q4, 2016. Any potential Nokia phone will likely launch in a similar way to the N1 Android tablet, allowing Nokia to partner with a manufacturer and simply brand the hardware. Nokia Technologies, a research and incubation team, is allegedly working on the company’s phone plans.
